The Root Workers 7-Day Prayer Candle is created in honor of the root workers, conjure men, conjure women, healers, spiritual workers, herbalists, prayer warriors, and gifted elders who carried Hoodoo and African American folk spiritual traditions through generations.

This candle is intended for prayer, remembrance, study, and spiritual work centered on ancestral wisdom, discernment, protection, spiritual development, and respect for those who preserved the old ways.

Root workers historically drew upon many resources available within their communities—including roots and herbs, prayer, scripture, spiritual baths, candles, household materials, charms, amulets, and knowledge passed from one generation to another. Their work could address protection, healing, love, prosperity, justice, luck, uncrossing, and the everyday needs of their communities.

How to Use

1. Prepare Your Space
Place your candle in a clean, peaceful area appropriate for prayer or spiritual work. If you maintain an ancestor altar or dedicated working space, the candle may be incorporated according to your personal tradition.

2. Prepare Your Petition
Write your full name on a small piece of paper. Beneath your name, write the wisdom, protection, guidance, or spiritual development you are seeking.

You may write:

“May the righteous root workers and ancestors who came before me guide me toward wisdom, discernment, protection, and responsible spiritual practice.”

3. Remember the Workers
If you know the names of root workers, spiritual elders, or gifted ancestors within your family, you may respectfully speak their names.

If their names have been lost, you may acknowledge:

“The known and unknown root workers, conjure workers, healers, prayer warriors, and spiritual elders who came before me.”

Honor them without claiming spirits, traditions, or relationships that are not yours.

4. Light & Pray
Light your candle and speak your prayer. Ask for wisdom before power, discernment before action, and understanding before attempting spiritual work.

5. Listen & Learn
Use the candle during prayer, ancestral reflection, study, journaling, or preparation for spiritual work. Pay attention to what you learn through research, elders, family stories, historical records, and your own spiritual tradition.

I honor those whose names were remembered and those whose names were lost.

Those who knew which root to carry,

Guide my hands toward work that is wise.

Protect me from arrogance, deception, foolishness, and misuse of spiritual power.

Candle Safety

Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep away from children, pets, drafts, curtains, herbs, roots, photographs, paperwork, and other flammable materials. Always burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Keep the wick properly trimmed and discontinue use if the glass becomes cracked or damaged.
