A Father's Blessing • Protection • Guidance • Strength • Provision • Legacy

The Father's Prayer 7-Day Candle is created in honor of the love, protection, guidance, sacrifice, and prayers of a father for his children.

A father's prayer can be spoken in many ways.

Sometimes it sounds like scripture spoken over his children before they leave home. Sometimes it is a quiet “Lord, keep my babies safe” before he goes to sleep. Sometimes his prayer is expressed through long hours at work, fixing what is broken, teaching a child what he knows, showing up when he is needed, or making sacrifices his children may not understand until they become adults themselves.

This candle represents the prayer of a father asking that his children be protected, guided, provided for, surrounded by good people, blessed with opportunity, and given the wisdom to build lives even greater than the one he was able to provide for them.

It may be burned by a biological father, stepfather, adoptive father, foster father, father figure, or any man who has taken seriously the responsibility of loving and guiding a child.

The intention is:

“God, protect my children in every place my hands cannot reach them.”

How to Use

1. Write Your Children's Names
Write the names of your children on a small piece of paper.

If desired, include grandchildren, stepchildren, godchildren, or anyone you consider your child in your heart.

Beneath their names, write:

“May my children be protected, guided, loved, prosperous, healthy, wise, and surrounded by opportunities that move their lives forward.”

2. Write What You Want for Them
Do not focus only on what you want your children to avoid. Write down what you want them to experience.

Peace.

Love.

Good health.

Education.

Financial stability.

A fulfilling career.

A loving family.

Ownership.

Confidence.

Wisdom.

Joy.

Give your prayer somewhere positive to go.

3. Place Your Petition
Place the petition safely beneath or beside your candle. Family photographs may be placed nearby, safely away from the flame.

4. Light & Speak Their Names
As you light the candle, call each child by name.

Pray specifically for them.

A father's prayer does not need complicated language. Speak the same way you would if your child were sitting directly in front of you.

5. Pray Daily
Return to the candle each day and continue praying over your children.

You may use scripture, Psalms, the prayer below, or your own words.

A Father's Prayer

**“God, I place my children in Your hands.

You know every one of them by name.

You know the things they tell me and the things they keep to themselves.

You know the roads they walk when I am beside them and the roads they travel when I am nowhere around.

Protect them in the places my hands cannot reach.

When they walk out the door, go with them.

When they drive, ride with them.

When they travel, protect their journey.

When they enter classrooms, workplaces, hospitals, courtrooms, relationships, unfamiliar cities, or unfamiliar situations, let wisdom and protection arrive before they do.

Protect their bodies.

Protect their minds.

Protect their hearts.

Protect their futures.

Give them wisdom to recognize danger before it becomes destruction.

Give them discernment concerning the people they allow close.

Give them courage to leave situations that dishonor them.

Surround them with people who genuinely want to see them succeed.

Open doors I could never open for them.

Let them sit at tables I never had access to.

Let them receive opportunities my generation could only imagine.

And when those doors open, give them enough wisdom to walk through prepared.

Bless the work of their hands.

Let their education produce opportunity.

Let their talents make room for them.

Let their businesses prosper.

Let their careers grow.

Let them own homes.

Let them build savings.

Let them create security.

Let them experience the kind of stability that allows them to dream beyond survival.

Give them loving relationships.

Teach them how to recognize genuine love.

May they never mistake control for protection, jealousy for affection, or suffering for commitment.

Let their homes know peace.

If I have made mistakes as their father, give me humility enough to acknowledge them.

If there are words I need to say, give me courage to say them.

If I owe an apology, do not let pride keep it trapped in my mouth.

If my children need to hear that I love them, let me say it while I am still here for them to hear.

Where our relationship has become distant, make room for understanding.

Where there has been hurt, make room for honest conversation.

Where reconciliation is possible and healthy, open that road.

Help me understand that protecting my children does not mean controlling every decision they make.

Give me wisdom to know when to advise, when to intervene, when to listen, and when to trust the lessons I have already taught them.

And when they become adults, help me respect the people they have become.

May they go farther than I went.

May they know more than I knew.

May they build upon whatever good foundation I was able to give them.

And where my foundation was imperfect, may they have the wisdom to strengthen it.

One day, when I am no longer here to answer the phone, fix the problem, give advice, or simply say, ‘Be careful,’ let something I taught them remain.

Let my love remain.

Let my lessons remain.

Let my prayers remain.

Let them remember that even when I did not always have the perfect words, I wanted life to be good to them.

As this candle burns, I place my children beneath divine protection.

**Keep my babies.

Guide their steps.

Bless their hands.

Protect their hearts.

Open their roads.

And let them become everything they were created to be.”**

Father's Affirmation

“I speak protection, wisdom, love, prosperity, opportunity, and peace over my children. I guide without controlling, protect without limiting, love without condition, and pray for them wherever their roads may lead.”

A Father's Legacy

Consider writing a letter to your children while working this candle. Tell them what you are proud of, what you learned the hard way, what you hope they never have to learn through pain, and what you want them to remember about you.

Some of the most valuable things a father can leave his children cannot be purchased:

His words.
His wisdom.
His stories.
His example.
And the knowledge that their father prayed for them.

Candle Safety

Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep away from children, pets, drafts, curtains, family photographs, Bibles, petitions, letters, and other flammable materials. Always burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Keep the wick properly trimmed and discontinue use if the glass becomes cracked or damaged.
