Lilith & Samael Prayer Candle
Shadow • Sovereignty • Forbidden Wisdom • Passion • Transformation • Personal Power
The Lilith & Samael 7-Day Prayer Candle is created for spiritual and esoteric work centered on shadow, sovereignty, personal power, transformation, passion, boundaries, hidden knowledge, and confronting the parts of ourselves we have been taught to fear or suppress.
Lilith and Samael are complex figures whose identities and relationship vary considerably across Jewish folklore, mystical texts, later occult traditions, and modern esoteric practice. They should not be reduced to a simple “dark divine couple.” In some later traditions they become symbolically associated with one another, while their earlier histories are considerably more complicated.
For those who intentionally work with these figures within an esoteric practice, this candle can serve as a focal point for exploring radical self-knowledge, autonomy, shadow integration, desire, boundaries, consequence, and the willingness to confront uncomfortable truths.
The intention is:
Show me what I have hidden from myself. Teach me to own my power without allowing my power to own me.

How to Use
1. Determine Your Intention
Before lighting this candle, decide exactly why you are working with it.
Do you want courage?
Independence?
Shadow integration?
Confidence?
Greater understanding of your desires?
Freedom from other people's expectations?
This is better approached with a specific intention than simple curiosity.
2. Write Your Petition
Write your full name on a small piece of paper.
Beneath your name, write:
“Reveal what I need to understand about my power, desires, boundaries, fears, and shadow. Give me the courage to see myself clearly and the wisdom to use what I discover responsibly.”
You may then add your personal petition.
3. Ask Yourself the Uncomfortable Question
Before lighting your candle, choose one question to explore:
Where have I surrendered my power to be accepted?
What do I desire but refuse to admit?
What part of myself have I labeled unacceptable because someone else taught me to?
Where am I confusing control with power?
What boundary am I afraid to establish?
What would I choose if I stopped living entirely according to other people's expectations?
Write your answer without censoring yourself.
4. Light & Reflect
Light the candle and sit quietly with your petition.
Do not rush to interpret every dream, coincidence, emotion, or unusual event as a supernatural message. Record what comes forward and look for meaningful patterns over time.
5. Reclaim—Don't Project
Shadow work is not simply identifying darkness in everyone around you.
Ask:
What belongs to them?
What belongs to me?
What am I projecting?
What am I avoiding?
The purpose is deeper self-knowledge, not another way to avoid accountability.
Lilith & Samael Prayer
**“At the threshold between what I reveal and what I conceal, I light this flame.
Lilith and Samael, figures of shadow, mystery, independence, severity, desire, and transformation, I approach this work consciously and with respect for the traditions from which your names emerge.
Let this flame illuminate what I have hidden from myself.
Show me where fear has disguised itself as obedience.
Show me where shame has silenced desire.
Show me where rejection taught me to become smaller.
Show me where anger is protecting a wound I have refused to acknowledge.
Reveal the parts of myself I abandoned because someone convinced me they were too loud, too ambitious, too sensual, too independent, too complicated, or too difficult to love.
Let me meet those parts again.
Not so they may control me.
So I may understand them.
Teach me the difference between sovereignty and isolation.
Between confidence and arrogance.
Between desire and obsession.
Between boundaries and walls.
Between power and domination.
Between freedom and recklessness.
May I never mistake cruelty for strength.
May I never call manipulation power simply because I am the one holding it.
May I never become so committed to rebellion that I allow opposition itself to determine who I am.
Let my choices belong to me.
Let my yes belong to me.
Let my no belong to me.
Let my body belong to me.
Let my desires belong to me.
Let my future belong to me.
Where I have given away authority over my life simply to avoid disappointing others, help me reclaim it.
Where I have silenced myself to remain acceptable, return my voice.
Where I have confused being wanted with being valued, give me discernment.
Where I have chased people who could not honor me, turn my attention back toward myself.
And where my own shadow has harmed others, give me enough integrity to recognize it.
I do not ask to become fearless.
I ask to become someone who can look directly at fear without allowing it to choose my life.
I do not ask to become untouchable.
I ask to become discerning.
I do not ask for power over everyone around me.
I ask first for power over myself.
My reactions.
My choices.
My boundaries.
My desires.
My direction.
As this candle burns, illuminate what has lived in darkness within me.
What deserves liberation, free it.
What requires discipline, teach it.
What requires healing, acknowledge it.
What requires boundaries, protect it.
What requires release, let it go.
May I emerge from my shadow not darker—but more complete.
**I know myself.
I claim myself.
I govern myself.
And I no longer apologize simply for existing in the fullness of who I am.”**
Affirmation
“My power begins with self-knowledge. I honor my desires, maintain my boundaries, confront my shadow, accept accountability for my choices, and refuse to surrender authority over my life merely to gain acceptance.”
Historical & Spiritual Note
Lilith and Samael have different roles across different historical sources, and many contemporary associations come from later mystical and occult interpretations rather than one continuous ancient tradition. Those using this candle devotionally should follow the teachings of the specific spiritual or esoteric tradition they practice rather than assuming all traditions understand these figures in the same way.
Candle Safety
Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep away from children, pets, drafts, curtains, petitions, books, photographs, herbs, and other flammable materials. Always burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Keep the wick properly trimmed and discontinue use if the glass becomes cracked or damaged.
