The Chocolate Conjure’s House of Hoodoo 12-Week Guided Interactive Foundations Course was created for students who want to begin their Hoodoo education with history, self-examination, ancestral knowledge, and respect for the people and traditions that came before them—while also having the opportunity to learn directly with Chocolate Conjure in a more personal classroom setting.

This isn't a collection of spells.

This is where you learn your roots before you start working roots.

Over 12 weeks, you will journey through the historical foundations of Southern Hoodoo, explore the role African American communities played in preserving Conjure and Rootwork traditions, examine yourself through guided shadow work, begin researching your family history, learn the foundations of ancestor veneration, and ultimately create a personal ancestral space rooted in remembrance, respect, and your actual family history.

Self-Paced Learning With Personal Instruction

You will have the freedom to complete your weekly lessons, textbook readings, workbook assignments, research, and reflections on your own schedule.

But you won't be learning alone.

Every two weeks, students will meet with Chocolate Conjure for live Zoom classroom instruction.

These biweekly classes are designed to bring the course material to life and give students a more personal learning experience.

During our Zoom classroom sessions, we'll revisit the previous weeks' lessons, expand upon important concepts, discuss historical and practical context, address common questions, talk through assignments, and prepare for the lessons ahead.

Students will also have an opportunity to ask questions and receive additional guidance directly from the instructor.

That means you'll have the independence of self-paced study with the connection and guidance of a real classroom.

Throughout the 12 weeks, you will begin building your Book of My People—a growing ancestral record containing the names, documents, photographs, family stories, obituaries, cemetery information, recipes, migration histories, interviews, traditions, and discoveries you uncover along the way.

Your final project becomes something much bigger than a class assignment.

It becomes a record your family can keep building upon.

Between our live Zoom classroom sessions, take your time with the work.

Research.

Journal.

Ask questions of your elders.

Listen to the family stories you've heard a hundred times—and this time, write them down.

Then bring your discoveries, questions, and curiosity back to class.
