The Grandmother's Prayer 7-Day Candle is created in honor of the sacred love, wisdom, protection, and prayers of the women we call Grandmother, Grandma, Granny, Nana, Ma, Big Mama, Meemaw, G-Ma, and countless other names spoken with love.

There is something powerful about a grandmother's prayer.

She may pray quietly before sunrise, whisper your name while washing dishes, call you just because something told her to check on you, or kneel beside her bed and place every child and grandchild before God one name at a time.

Some grandmothers pray with a Bible in their hands. Some pray while cooking. Some pray while rocking on the porch. Some learned prayers from their own grandmothers and have been speaking those same words over the family for generations.

This candle is created to represent that covering—the prayer of a grandmother asking that her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, home, and family be protected, guided, blessed, prosperous, and kept along every road they travel.

It may be burned by a grandmother praying over her family or by someone seeking the comfort and spiritual symbolism of a grandmother's loving prayer.

The intention is:

“Wherever my babies go, may my prayers go with them.”

How to Use

1. Write the Names of Your Family
On a small piece of paper, write the names of the children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, or other loved ones you wish to cover in prayer.

If the list is long, you may simply write:

“My children, my grandchildren, my great-grandchildren, and every generation that comes through my family.”

2. Write Your Grandmother's Petition
Beneath the names, write what you desire for them.

For example:

“May my family be protected wherever they go. Give them wisdom, health, peace, love, prosperity, good opportunities, and the discernment to recognize what means them harm.”

3. Place Your Petition
Place the petition safely beneath or beside the candle.

Family photographs may be placed nearby if desired, but always keep them safely away from the flame.

4. Light & Call Their Names
As you light the candle, speak the names on your petition.

There is no need for complicated words.

A grandmother saying, “Lord, keep my babies,” can carry an entire prayer within four words.

5. Pray Daily
Return to your candle each day and pray over your family.

You may read scripture, recite Psalms, use the prayer below, or simply speak from your heart.

Grandmother's Prayer

**“God, I place my babies in Your hands.

The little ones.

The grown ones.

The ones who still call every day.

The ones who think they are too grown to call.

The ones close enough for me to hug.

And the ones so far away that all I can do is pray.

Keep them.

When they walk out of a door I cannot follow them through, go with them.

When they get into a car, ride with them.

When they board a plane, cover them.

When they walk into a classroom, workplace, courtroom, hospital, or any place where I cannot stand beside them, let my prayers arrive before they do.

Protect their bodies.

Protect their minds.

Protect their hearts.

Protect their homes.

Protect their children.

Protect the people they love.

Give them enough wisdom to recognize trouble before trouble recognizes them.

Give them courage to walk away from what is not meant for them.

Put good people along their roads.

Open doors that will bless them.

Close doors that would destroy their peace.

When they make mistakes, give them wisdom enough to learn.

When they fall, help them rise.

When their hearts break, remind them that they are still loved.

When they become discouraged, send somebody to remind them who they are.

Bless the work of their hands.

Let them have enough.

Enough food.

Enough money.

Enough opportunity.

Enough love.

Enough peace.

Enough wisdom to build something better for the generation coming behind them.

Do not let the struggles of yesterday become the inheritance of tomorrow.

Let every generation become wiser.

Let every generation become stronger.

Let every generation have opportunities the generation before them prayed for.

And when I am no longer here to call their names myself, let the prayers I prayed continue speaking.

May they remember something I taught them.

May they remember something I said.

May they remember that somebody loved them enough to pray for them before they even knew they needed prayer.

And when they have babies of their own, may they place their hands over those children and continue what was started generations before.

As this candle burns, I place my family beneath divine protection.

Grandmother's Affirmation

Family Tradition

Consider writing the names of your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in a family Bible, prayer journal, or dedicated family record. Add birthdays, marriages, births, family stories, and prayers.

A grandmother's greatest inheritance is not always something that can be deposited into a bank account.

Sometimes it is knowing somebody called your name in prayer long before you understood the power of being remembered.

Candle Safety

Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep away from children, pets, drafts, curtains, family photographs, Bibles, petitions, dried flowers, and other flammable materials. Always burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Keep the wick properly trimmed and discontinue use if the glass becomes cracked or damaged.
